awesome, I love backmasking.
from Boing Boing.
In New York magazine, Adam Sternbergh’s piece about the decline of Lost captures my sentiments exactly. The show is getting worse and worse because the creators are forbidden from ever solving the central mystery in order to keep it running for as many seasons as possible. So when some smaller mystery does get explained, it never helps explain what’s really going on.
There is, however, a simple solution: Change the format, or at least reimagine it. When it so-called arc shows, we need something between a mini-series and an open-ended run. We need the TV equivalent of a novella: the limited-run show. Series driven by a central mystery (Twin Peaks, The X-Files) peter out precisely because they have indefinite life spans. The writers are forced to serve up red herrings until the shows choke on their own plot twists. (Whereas 24 works because it’s more cliff-hanger than puzzle—though Jack Bauer is surely the unluckiest man alive.)
What to do when Lost goes missing for 13 weeks next season?
The light you see at the end of that dark hatch is Day Break, the new detective drama ABC will air in Lost’s place until the island mystery returns sometime in February for an uninterrupted run of fresh spring episodes.
Inquiring critics wanted to know why ABC decided to bring Lost back in the fall for six weeks (starting Oct. 4) and then erase it from the winter schedule, rather than air reruns (like chewing gum–you’re still hungry but it provides a quick fix), and then dump the new 2007 installments right into American Idols‘ lap.

Over at abc.com the trailer for “Live Together, Die Alone” has been updated with an interesting scene between Jack and Michael! Don’t read on if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Jack grabs Michael by the collar and screams “Tell them the truth!” Oh my god! Tell who? What truth? What does Jack know? Doesn’t seem he would suddenly freak out on suspicion alone, althought that wouldn’t be too out of character for Jack.
It looks like the scene is in a jungle locale, therefore the reveal is obviously in advance of when they arrive at the beach.
This is for Jared…if he dares. I haven’t watched it yet, but the Canadian trailer is notorious for revealing way more info than the US trailer. Not sure why.

There is a new clue in the Lost Experience. Today a reference to the DJ Dan Web site was added to the Hanso Foundation Web site. The DJ Dan site contains a podcast with commentary about the whereabouts of Alvar Hanso, among other things. The statements in the podcast appear to be just “conspiracy theories”. But, everything happens for a reason, right Locke?
