Here are my thoughts:
On the island, Kate chooses Jack. Kate becomes pregnant. Kate beats the odds, survives her pregnancy, and gives birth to a viable baby boy. The island rescue comes to fruition. Some people choose to stay while others choose to go home. Jack and Kate choose to take their baby home. Jack has a difficult time assimilating to society. Jack wishes they had stayed on the island. Jack and Kate’s relationship turns sour and they separate. Jack begins to turn to substance abuse to cope with his depression. Jack loses his job…loses his sanity…loses everything. Kate will not talk to him anymore. Jack hopes that of those who were rescued, some might go to whomever’s viewing- especially Kate. (Tangent thought: I think the “whomever” is Sawyer because he is not Jack’s family or friend + Jack makes a snide comment to Kate resentfully, and insecurely, hints that he expected her to be at the viewing + ). Jack calls Kate’s telephone again and again.  She finally answers and agrees to meet him near the airport.  Â
As Kate listens attentively, Jack recalls his recent flying experiences around the world, “I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back.â€Â Kate looks down as a tear descends down her cheek. She looks up at Jack with empathy and resistively says, “This is not going to change.â€Â Jack scornfully interrupts, “No, I am sick of lying.â€Â Kate becomes resistive and begins to create distance between them. In a serious tone, Jack states, “We made a mistake.â€Â Between them, a long silence with cold stares.  Kate becomes even more resistive and firmfully states, “I have to go.â€Â As Kate steps back from Jack, she says, “He is going to be wondering where I am.† Jack lunges towards Kate and grabs her. Kate turns her head and does not look at Jack. Jack says, “No, we were not supposed to leave.â€Â Kate looks up at Jack and opens her eyes and defiantly states, “Yes, we were.â€Â Kate steps back and turns away. “Goodbye, Jack.† As she walks towards her car and opens the door, Kate pauses as Jack states, “We have to go back, Kate.â€Â Kate pauses again and looks at Jack, then enters her and drives away. “We have to go back!â€
The “he” is their baby boy!
the coffin is really small. watch the episode again and you’ll see. sawyer is a pretty tall guy, and there is no way he could have fit into that coffin in the episode. it would have to be somebody short.
No, I’ll disagree with you on that. I refer to this screenshot, and the fact that the average male hand span (thumb to pinky, in a similar position to what Jack has on the coffin) is 7.87 inches.
Based on that, the coffin in this picture is just over 7 feet long. Obviously, the measurements may vary slightly from the average, but there’s definitely enough margin for it to be big enough for a full sized person.
All that, and the fact that there’s no way they would give something away like that by making it an obviously small coffin.
Kate and Jack could not have had a baby together. If they did the baby would only be a year or under old. I one year old baby would not be wondering where kate is.
What makes you think the “flash-forward” is only one year in the future? I’m not sure that we saw that, but I could be wrong. Especially if the phone was a clue - that was a recent model phone (October 2006) that would put the time period at least 2 years after the island, because all the island stuff we’ve seen so far is 2004.
Although you could also theorize that more time has passed off island than on island, if there’s some time warping involved.
The guy is the coffin could be Locke anyone ever thought of that? If Locke were to be taken off the island he would probably let himself die quickly.
Yes, I posted on that here earlier this week.
The person in the coffin could be Ben. After all, he did not know soul outside of the island. Jack looks exasperated when he touches the coffin and shakes his head possibly intimating that he realizes that Ben was right in saying that he was making a mistake by calling on the rescue mission.
I believe that it’s MUCH more likely to be Locke than Ben.
1. All the reasons listed for it being Ben equally apply to Locke (they both tried to convince Jack to make the other choice)
2. Jack and Kate would be much more likely to have at least some sort of emotional attachment to Locke than Ben, unless that is hinging on parts of the story we haven’t seen yet.
3. Locke is MUCH more likely to let himself die alone, wallowing is self pity, if he were forced to return to the real world. I don’t see Ben going out that easily. I think it’s more likely for him to either die in the struggle to remain on the island, or for him to be taken captive and held on the island for further study / leverage.
did anyone notice that Jack saying at the hospital to the other doctor when he asks “How many drinks did you have today Jack?” and Jack says something like bring my father he is more drunk than I am… Didn’t his father die before the crash and his coffin was on the plane?! Is it because Jack is sick and having memory problems or was this Kate and Jack meeting at the airport happening before the crash not the future?
