Michael is Dead

We always wondered what happened to Michael. It makes sense that it’s Michael in the coffin. He had no friends or family and lived in an inner-city area. And Jack would feel guilty over his death, since he wrote him off as a traitor. Maybe his boat was picked up by the big ship this whole time and his son somehow made it back to the island.

I’ll say it again: no. There’s nothing (at least that we’ve seen yet) that would indicate that Jack would have that kind of reaction to Michael’s funeral, especially since he wasn’t even there at the time of the “big mistake” (assuming what we just saw is the root of that mistake).

The only point of the setting of the funeral for me is that whoever it was died while living a lonely life in a run down area of a city. Locke would probably end up in such a circumstance if he were dragged off the island and became paralyzed and purposeless again.

See here for my thoughts on the Walt thing.

I would have to agree with “jared.”
I believe there could be two possible individuals which would make Jack react in that matter at the funeral: John Locke or Ben Linus. If you recall, the funeral director informs Jack that there were no family members. Both Locke and Ben had no families, and from how Jack had been behaving (the “wishing to return”…to where?? perhaps another flasback story), I would lean more on Locke being the person in the casket, being that he was the only one who insisted that everyone stay in the island, while Jack continually went against him, only to realize (in the future) that Locke was right all along, giving Jack guilt for having “betrayed” him when Locke was right all along.

Another reason for my predictions is because of the way Kate answered Jack when he asked her whether she went to the funeral. She wouldn’t have cared for Locke or Ben…, definitely for Sawyer. (Juliet did have family, at least her sister, so she’s out of the equation.)

Let’s not forget that Rosie had cancer before she leaves the island, and we’re not sure that her husband makes it off as he is in the other group that’s on the beach when they get “saved”. Of course, anyone would feel bad about Rosie dying, and she might have contracted her cancer again once they leave the island.

As for Michael and Walt, it’s totally possible that either Ben’s compass reading for them to follow took them to a place where The Others simply intercepted them, or maybe they just didn’t give them enough gas to make it to the place he was suggesting and got to them by boat because of that.

I guess it could be Rose, in the sense that it could be anyone really, but Rose or Michael would really be out of the blue, in my opinion; neither of them had a significant enough relationship with Jack (good or bad), at least that we’ve seen so far.

I’m not sure why people have it in their heads that because it’s in a poor LA neighborhood and there was a black guy working there that the individual in the coffin has to be black. I’m not saying it’s racist to assume that, but suffice it to say that it’s certainly not evidence in any way, shape, or form.

As for the Michael / Walt thing, I’m sure they’ll probably revisit what happened to them at some point, and I’m not saying they did or didn’t make it; only that it would be very unlikely (based on the story we’ve seen so far) that Jack would have that kind of reaction to Michael’s death as opposed to some of the others that have been suggested.
