Flashbacks

I’ve always thought that the flashbacks we’ve seen throughout this show were not entirely accurate views of past events, and I think the recent Desmond episode backs that up.

My theory is that the flashbacks we see are the memories of the people involved, but only as they remember them now, which may or may not be completely “true”. In addition, I think the island (or something on it) influences these memories for some reason.

In addition, whatever process the island uses to do this is not strictly limited by time, so that it could perhaps influence the memories / thoughts that subjects had before they even got to the island, as long as they get there at some point (destiny, etc.)

Finally, Desmond was exposed to an extreme version of whatever force enables this distortion, which is why his recent “flashback” was so vivid, long and lucid (he was able to realize that he was experiencing a flashback but still participate in it, like a lucid dream).

One interesting question to ponder (whether this theory is accurate or not) is that the effect that Desmond experienced could not have been just seeing his future flash before his eyes, because that future has changed several times since. He said he saw Charlie die from the lightning, AND later die drowning trying to save Claire. So either Desmond saw multiple branches of the future timeline at the time he turned the key, OR he is continuing to see variations as things change.

Avoiding spoilers

If you don’t want to hear any spoilers, definitely stay away from the Michael Emmerson interview by the guys at Comic News Insider.

Jay and Jack played a short clip on their show at first (just the part where they asked their questions), but they recently added a show that contained the whole interview, and (in that full version) “Ben” spills the beans big time about a lot of stuff. So much so, that I can’t imagine he didn’t get chewed out afterwards.

I won’t mention details here, in case anyone is trying to avoid the spoilers.

Desmonds part

I think that desmond is a big part of what might affect the others, first remember they other episode when they talked about the sub, the sub is back. And the end of last season, when Desmonds fiance got the call about the disturbance after desmond release the magnetic energy. I think that gave her the exact location of where they are and now the sub is trying to locate the Island.

awesome, I love backmasking.

Kill off Jack - now!

I remarked to the guys while we were watching the show that if Jack agrees to go out of the room while Ben and Juliet talk that I would quit watching this show.

OK, so I was exaggerating, but seriously, what the heck is he thinking? Why would he agree to that?

Not so far off…RYT Hospital @Dwayne Center

This is the best theory that I have heard yet. Take a look at the RYT site at the link below. It might be fiction, but it gives us some some insight into the possible objectives of the Dharma project. The French have been looking into this for a while now. Why the French?? Male pregnancy has several advantages. Shorter gestation period. Estimates between 3-5 months. So if the urgency is to re-populate quickly. Male pregnancy is optimal. This frees the female population to perform the dual task of nurturing…one to many…and to wage war. French studies have shown that the female mind is superior when it comes to tactical planning in waging war…and in the case of the French…less likely to surrender.

I am anxious to see how you theory plays out.

Theory about Juliette’s Fertility Treatment

Hello. I will caveat my way-out theory by saying that my track record for being correct on Lost theories isn’t great. But here it goes anyway…

Juliette is working on some cutting edge, “ethically questionable” fertility treatments that gets a world renowned specialist excited and surprised enough to walk out in the middle of the street and get hit by a bus. Juliette states that she won’t allow her sister to be the Case Study # 1 (something like that, but it implies nobody has ever done what she’s done before).

We see Juliette’s sister in a sickly state. My thinking is that her sister is really her brother who has undergone a sex-change operation. The baldness and “needing to get well” is simply a recovery from a very invasive series of surgeries that require lots of strong, hormonal medication. This is why the research center is interested her - the fact that she impregnated a Male mouse. Why would she have worked on impregnating a male mouse, if it wasn’t for the motivation of wanting to help her Brother/Sister get pregnant?

My only question if this is true is why would the Others be interested in her ability to get men pregnant? Are they trying to start a new society that requires mass procreation at a rate that women can’t fulfill? Are they trying to start a society that doesn’t need women at all?

Anyway, it’s a stretch but I think plausible.

Most unlikely crackpot theory / prediction

Here’s a challenge: post your most far out theory that would be very unlikely to happen, but still within the realm of possibility of them actually doing on the show.

I’ll start by speculating that whichever of the three prisoners (Jack, Kate, & Sawyer) gets off the prison island, they do so by finding the boat that Michael and Walt took off in. Michael and Walt may or may not be there. If they are there, perhaps they will have aged out of sync with the “regular” time line, to explain Walt’s growth.

Ramping up

I’m really looking forward to this week, and beginning the long haul of hopefully good episodes. To prepare, I’m going to dump out a couple random theories or thoughts I’ve been considering about the show, and see which ones play out and are either proven or not.

  1. I think Kate is playing along with the others, and has been since the beginning of season 3, after her meal with Ben. This could be complicated by any number of twists, such as her just pretending to cooperate with them to then turn on them later, or them suspecting that and using her in spite of it, etc. etc. - double/triple twists, etc.
  2. Paulo (I think that’s his name) said something interesting in the bathroom in the Pearl; something to the effect of “the bathroom still works”, which was supposedly the exact same line that Charlie said when he was exploring the cockpit section with Jack and Kate. I speculate that this is a reference to Paulo having other reasons for going in there, just as Charlie did.
  3. I still think that the info the others get from the outside world is a one-way communication; they get whatever someone on the outside gives them, but they cannot make requests or have conversations, etc.
  4. The four toed statue is a red herring. I believe that its only purpose is to cause those who find their way onto the island (as well as us as viewers) ask some weird questions.
  5. The losties will (hopefully) follow that cable one way or the other (ocean or jungle) or both, and find something interesting. Of course, they could also find it tied to a big heavy rock or tree - another red herring, for those on the island as well as us as viewers.
  6. Ben used to monitor the Pearl; they show too many shots with him in that other monitor room that it seems obvious.
  7. How the heck did the others not know about Desmond’s boat? Ben seemed not to, until they said something about it and he said “I have to have that boat”, or something to that affect. This is especially interesting since the guy that was with Desmond definitely knew about it, and seemed to have hidden it in almost plain sight to anyone with unfettered access to all of the island, as we assume the others have. Something doesn’t line up.
  8. I still think Libby didn’t belong in that place where Hurley was. Whether she was there to spy on the numbers guy or she actually did have some sort of mental issues (hopefully somehow related to the projects/experiments), I hope we find out soon.
