it had some religious reference in the group or something, so i’d go with saying the book was the Stand. but all of the people in the house had different looking stephen king books. stephen king recently did an article on lost for entertainment weekly, so maybe it was sort of a scratch on the back or something. most die-hard stephen king fans choice of work is usually the stand. hope this helps.

I do think if we find out what book this is it might be a big clue to the “others” state of mind…

It does appear to be Carrie. You can partially see the letters “CAR” in this screen shot.

It didn’t look like “The Stand” - but the metaphor would be fitting. Two groups of people seemingly brought together by a cruel twist of fate left to scratch out a new existence and rebuild society. One group is the “good group” with their fingers curled tightly around faith. The other group is the “bad group” and they only want to satisfy their own needs and desires. Fitting, don’t ya think?

The producers have listed Steven King as an influence on numerous occasions, so I’m sure that themes or elements from several of his stories will end up making their way into the Lost story, either intentionally or subconsciously.

As for this particular book reference, I was a little out of the loop in this discussion so far, since we missed the first several minutes of the show last night, and I only just now went and watched them.

I didn’t think to look at the particular book while watching, although belladonna’s screen cap link seems to clearly point to Carrie. I tried cross referencing that shot with this Stephen King cover gallery; no luck, but I’m sure that site isn’t really complete for such a widely published work.

In any event, I definitely agree with Darren (above); seems like the really made a point of telling us that Ben didn’t like (or approve of) the book.

Carrie also has a religious reference- Carrie’s psycho mom.
