Easy on the conspiracy theories

Well, from the finale it would certainly seem that all the theories about specific people being set up to be on the plane by Dharma/Hanso/whoever are a bit harder to believe. I’ve been saying for a while (here and other places) that I don’t tend to believe any theories that involve certain people being manipulated into being on that plane for the purpose of getting them on the island, because the crash appears to have been a total accident.

Now that I’ve said that, I also have to acknowledge that there are significant clues which do point to that kind of conspiratorial explanation, with more than a few of the people who ended up on the plane. So, to argue against myself in the previous paragraph, here are two ways that I believe they could maintain the “targeted people” theories in light of what we saw in the finale:

  1. Whoever is orchestrating the conspiracy and putting certain passengers in place on the flight knew (via some method of viewing the future) that the crash would happen and planned accordingly. This would allow the crash to still be an accident (as depicted in this episode), but also allow for the conspiracy theories.
  2. Kelvin was a part of the conspiracy, and drew Desmond out of the hatch at that particular point in time, knowing that the plane was coming and intentionally causing the crash. (I think this one is weaker plot-wise, but at least relies less on the type of “supernatural” explanation that the first one would imply.

Lost finale dissection and theory

Well I’m glad someone has posted on the finale but I’m going to stack on top of it and dissect it with my own thoughts and observations.

The statue is rumored or theorized to be this one, although I don’t see any descriptions of it being four toed. A lot of people think it shows the island is Atlantis from Greek mythology but I really don’t believe that. First the island (being close to AU and between LA) is nowhere near the Europe. It could be that the statue was drug there onto the island because when you look at it looks as if it had been dragged onto the beach from the sea. I don’t know what that means but I’d have to say the island is not Atlantis although it could be related and I’ve been wrong before.

It think the key reverses the polarization of the magnetic energy and thus deactivating the energy. I really don’t know what the deal with the sound and flashing light was but it could have just released all of the energy at once dissipating around the world. Something that makes the point of reversing the magnetic field is the launching of the hatch door into the air and crashing close to Bernard and Cloe.

People have said that the other’s hatch or living space is under the pier. That would be cool, a true underwater hatch. This also makes me think about where Michael is going and how the whole island and the surrounding waters are being controlled and observed because if Desmond an experienced sailor can’t get out how can Michael.

So how did Desmond get to the island in the first place and how would Penny Widmore know. My guess is Mr. Widmore knowing that he couldn’t get rid of Desmond with money somehow made him get trapped on the island. Penny found out somehow and started her search, the people in the snow where hired by Penny to find the where the magnetic energy was in the world that, which is a flag for the local of the island.

So if Penny knew her Dad was in on Desmond being missing and knew that her Dad was into some magnetic energy thing it would make me assume that Widmore is funding Hanso’s science.

I’d hope all three, Desmond, Locke and Ecko are alive but it seems like Desmond has passed because the story telling in the finale would be somewhat mute because it was so effective and touching that he would sacrifice his life and only in him doing so his girl finds where he is. I also wouldn’t think Ecko is gone because they shouldn’t have waked him up to push Charlie out and see Locke at the very end. Why kill him twice? Locke is to of a popular character to be dead too, but I would have to guess he’s paralyzed since the new incident.

And if Locke is paralyzed then Sun might miscarry and Bernard’s wife will die. sun’s miscarry makes sense since we couldn’t possibly see her have a child with the current time frame of the show.

I think the parrot or flying thing was just a write in and served no more purpose then giving an opportunity to have Micheal shoot his empty gun and to serve as a reminder that this is a science fiction show. The same purpose the big foot was placed int he show for.

At the point of the shooting of the bird Jack freaks out like he always does and the truth is out about Michael. I’d have to agree with some in saying Jack and the crew, including Michael, made another “plan” and when Jack and Kate exchanged that look at the end it was time to put it in place.

Lastly I think Henry is truly “Him” and that the others are the “good” people on the island, making them the renegades of the initiative.

Thoughts on the season finale..

Last episode’s been aired. A few questions have been answered and new ones have popped up. From the top of my mind I can think of seven noticable topics:

- What is the story behind that four toed broken statue, the others’ door and the stonehedge look-a-like stones connected close to the others’ lair?
- What does the key actually do? Kelvin’s description wasn’t exactly very detailed. If it all “went away”, then surely Charlie should be dead now!? What did he even do there?
- The others clearly have a lab or facility of some sort… They do not just live in tents. Where is it and what do they do there?
- Desmond’s girlfriend.. Does her family have a connection with the Hanso foundation? What did that last scene mean?
- Is Kelvin still alive? (Least likely, but) If not could Desmond and Sayid talk with each other about him to find out about his past?
- Flying parrot screaming Hurley. What’s up with that?
- Who is “Henry”… really? Now he seems to be chief in command?

I also noticed how Libby was in Desmond’s flashback as it was rumoured. Furthermore, her appearance supports the whole, “she might have been an other or with someone else” hypothesis. Either that or it’s almost too convenient in terms of random appearances.

Also, does anyone know where the episode name comes from? I know Jack says it at some stage, but it sounds like it could be a quote from someplace else.

Lastly, I’d like to post two drawings I had to post here after watching the episode. Meant to be funny, so let me know what you think:

You’ll have to excuse my lack of artistic/drawing talent, but I found this rather amusing to draw. Now if only October would come quicker…
