Here’s my latest take on the Libby character, and my previous allegation that she is working with “the others” and/or Dharma: I think she was put in that hospital as a plant, to monitor “Lenny” (the numbers guy), who I believe was formerly a part of this experiment before he went insane.
Her new assignment on the island is to get as close as possible to Hurley and find out how much Lenny may have revealed to him and report back.
Valid hypothesis I think.
My question to that however is: What is worth having her run back and forth as “the others’” dog? “Henry” seems to be afraid of the others, maybe she is too if this is the case? But of what? In which case - are her feelings for Hurley true? Hurley said it himself, something along these lines “in real life, no girl like you would fall for me”.
Personally I think still think and hope Libby is a survivor, like the rest of the bunch. But we’ll see.
Anything’s possible on this show, but I still think Libby is who she says she is. She’s a shrink and a normal survivor of the crash. However, like just about everyone else, there is something about her background that she’s hiding. In her case, it’s her stint in the institution.
My bet is that Lenny, who sits spouting the numbers over and over, was once a Dharma project participant and may have lived in the hatch punching in the numbers every 108 minutes and then gone mad.
I agree with Dan that Lenny probably was in that hatch punching the numbers at some point. But I also think that maybe his insanity is actually the disease that keeps getting mentioned. Or maybe the disease IS insanity. Maybe the “treatment” is what caused Lenny’s condition. Being that “The disease worsens with treatment. The remedy is worse than the disease.” Maybe the “treatment” is the same thing that Desmond was injecting himself with, and now Desmond is on his way spouting out the numbers while playing connect four.
Who was the guy that Hurley went to Australia investigate? The guy who used the numbers to win the lottery and also cause bad luck for people. He might have been a puncher. Or maybe he knew one.
This just poped into my head but seems out there. What if the “others” all used to be number punchers at one point or another?
As for Libby I think there will be 3 back stories that dont quit fit together and in the end we will find out that she is an identical triplet. She has two other identical sisters that the writers are just trying to throw us off with.
I don’t know if “D” is Dan, but just remember that I already mentioned / suggested that Lenny was part of the experiment. Wouldn’t want anyone to steal my credit on that one… just kidding
Joking aside (I realize I can’t take credit for thinking of the Lenny thing, since people other than me have probably also thought that since the beginning), I don’t think I’ve heard the other part of my theory before anywhere (that Libby was assigned to the institute to watch Lenny, and then assigned to Hurley to find out what Lenny may have told Hurley and how much he knows), so I want exlusive rights to that one. ha ha ha
As for the 3 back stories / triplets theory, that’s pretty out there (sounds like some of mine). It would be funny if it were true, but I think that might be a bit too cheesy for the Lost writers to do.
