I dont have any theorys I just wanna post about the notes on the Blast Door Map.
“STATED GOAL
ACCELERATED DE-TERRITORIALIZATION OF URSUS MARITIMUS THROUGH GENE THERAPY AND EXTREME CLIMATE CHANGE”
URSUS MARITIMUS=LATIN NAME:POLAR BEAR
“P.R.D.:every
6-8 months”
Military Acronym P.R.D.= Projected Rotation Date
P.R.D. also might be Periodic Ration Drop.
as stated on one of the hundered (and 8 ) translated pictures.
Ive been thinking that maybe the Henry Gail imposter already knew the numbers. When Locke told them to “Henry”, he repeated them way to quickly and confidently, as if he already knew them. Also I think he might have activated the black light. I think he wated Locke to see the map. After “Henry” enters the numbers and you hear the timer reset theres about 15 seconds before the black lights come on so he would have had time to activate them. Also maybe he knew how to open the blast doors. He had at least 45 seconds and at most just under 2 minutes to do so. There was a shot of the timer showing it at 107 when Locke crawled into the room so at least 1 minute had past since “Henry” entered the numbers, and at most just under 2 minutes since the timer doesnt count seconds until the alarm goes off. Whether or not he opened the doors, where was he for that whole one to two minutes when he finaly came up behind Locke.
Henry being able to open the doors doesnt work with my next thought
One of the notes on the map says “Activity Minimal During Lockdown and restocking prosedures” I’m guessing the blast doors came down cause of the (P.R.D.?) Since the drop is every 6-8 months, and not like clockwork, the blast doors are probably activated by who ever drops the supplies, Dharmatel, The Hanso Foundation, or whoever.
Dharmatel sounds like a Hindu Comunications comapny.
I was trying to translate the latin phrases off of the map, which didnt go to well, but then lost.cubit.net updated the image with the link for the tranlated latin in the bottom corner of the image. Their translations are
Aegrescit medendo – The disease worsens with the treatment. The remedy is worse than the disease
Sursum corda – Lift up your hearts (to God)
Credo nos in fluctu eodem esse – I think we’re on the same wavelength
Malum consilium quod mutari non potest – It’s a bad plan that can’t be changed.
Cogito ergo doleo – I think therefore I am depressed
Ut sit magna, tamen certe lenta ira deorum est – The wrath of the gods may be great, but it certainly is slow
Hic sunt dracones – Here be dragons
Nil actum credens dum quid superesset agendum – Don’t consider that anything has been done if anything is left to be done
Liberate te ex inferis – Save yourself from hell
Mus uni non fidit antro – A mouse does not rely on just one hole
I don’t think I doubt their translations but I used a couple different internet translators and I didnt get any of those translations for the ones I pluged into the translators.
One of the translations i got was
Ut sit magna, tamen certe lenta ira deorum est – “when he is magna nothwithstanding certainly slowly anger downwards is”
Just jibberish. Direct translations can be way off, I know, But how did they get it correct so quickly? I saw it at about noon. If they are east coast thats 18 hours max if they didnt sleep. maybe someone leadked the translations?
somthing else I found
“Maybe the question mark was the underwater hatch or where the guy they call “Him” is.”
That was on the message board at 4815162342.com I thought you guys were the only ones talking about an underwater hatch. Some else has your same theory.
here is another screenshot that looks awesome:

Yet another great screen capture: http://cmeister2.uwcs.co.uk/hatch.jpg
Rather than try to lift up the blast doors to get out – which resulted in Locke’s injury – why didn’t he try to crawl out of the vent like he later told Gale to do?
2 reasons:
1. Hindsight is always 20-20
2. It’s TV and how else would we get his injury and a correlation of deception after trust through Gale and Locke, like Locke and his dad.
This screenshot is great. Its cleared up enough that you can read most of the actual writing for youself instead of typed out transcriptions.

I love how JM is going off on this so next Wednesday we can say, “you theorize too much”.

This is getting a little crazy.
http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Blast_Door
I almost suspect that this is an information overload tactic; giving the crazy fans so much info to sift through that it’s impossible to figure out what’s important and what is just meaningless / red herrings.
I do think it’s interesting that they all seem to be interconnected, and the mention of some part of the swan station conduit being blocked after the “incident”.
I’m still wondering what triggered the whole blast door thing to begin with (unless it was just a timed thing that happens every x number of days, and this was just the first time). It will be interesting to see whether Locke tries to reproduce it to get another look at that map; but if history is any indication, he probably won’t be curious enough.
The most logical explanation for the doors closing was for the PRD=P. Ration Drop. The alarms and the announcements were to warn of the doors closing so the drop could occur. Not really to close them in. I say so the drop could occur because the most reasonable theory is the doors need to close to block the magnetism (or whatever) from interfering with the plane (or whatever) that flew by to do the Ration Drop.
I also agree with JasonM that the Henry Gale activated the blue light so Locke could see it.
I find it quite odd how Locke keeps on not tell anyone else about what he has seen so far. The black cloud in the jungle (also most likely the reason why he has so much faith in the island!), the count down timer buffer-time signs, and now most likely the map.
I am wondering when he will reveal anything about this to the rest of the group.
Regarding Henry, personally I think he is an Other, mainly because I believe Sayid is right, but what if Henry has an amnesia similar to what Claire experienced?
Regarding the polar bear, I am sceptic that it’s an experiment. I’d much rather believe (for now) that it is a physical manifestation of the polar bear from the comic Walt was reading. As far as I am aware, polar bears have only showed up in the episodes Walt read the spanish comic. And never since Michael burned that comic. Which would also explain why children are important for the others. They have this “ability” to make ideas real because of their innocence.
I don’t think I’m into the connection between the supply drop and the lockdown, because I don’t see why anything within that part of the hatch itself would be able to magnetically affect a plane flying overhead. If it were, and if the blast doors needed to be closed to prevent it from affecting the plane, then when the blast doors are up every piece of metal on the island (or at least near/within the hatch itself) would be going crazy. Since we have seen plenty of metal in and around the swan hatch (guns, cookware, belt buckles, etc.) and nothing ever happens to it, I don’t think the magnetic affect emanates from within that room.
I certainly believe that it’s obvious that there are some magnetic things going on (as seen by the affect of the compass in the beginning and probably the “monster”), and probably it also was involved in bringing down flight 815, but I suspect this was a very focused intentional act. There may also be a general, larger scale pole-shifting type magnetic affect going on, which I believe is responsible for the compass being wrong, as well as the reason that the polar bear was on the island (whether it was drawn there naturally or placed there as part of the pole shifting experiment, which is more likely). But I suspect that if anything the swan station is more of a control or monitoring center for the huge magnetic forces that would be required for such feats, not the actual epicenter of the magnetic disturbance itself.
In case it’s not obvious from the above paragraph, I don’t believe that the polar bear was created by Walt or anyone else’s imagination. I do think that there is certainly some psychic weirdness going on, and that Walt is a part of it, but I don’t think it’s the kind of thing that can manifest physical polar bears. I could buy it if it was only a projection into the minds of those involved (Sawyer and whoever else was there), and I guess that could be possible since I don’t remember whether the bear ever touched anyone. I could see the projections of Walt in the jungle being his attempt to reach out to his original group, and his speech being backwards because he isn’t that good at it yet, but I think (if anything) that’s probably the upper limit of his paranormal abilities, which would seem to be lesser than creating a real bear.
I guess I could see the air drop being connected to the lockdown if it was some sort of defense mechanism that was triggered anytime there was a plane flying overhead. It could be that the lockdown is designed to somehow shield things on the island from being detected by surveillance equipment.
I’ve thought for a while now that Henry Gale was one of the most interesting characters so far, and each episode he’s in further confirms that opinion for me. He and Desmond are on my top two list for the people I’d most like to see more about on the show. Third would probably be Hurley; I think he’s destined to play a big part in everything as it unravels.
Yeah, I do prefer the theory that the lockdown was to hide it from surveillance.
The blast doors coming down was either the result of the PRD or had some other correlation with it because it was confirmed by the producers on the latest cast.
To restate and update.
I think that the PRD has to be connected to the closing of the blast door because of this note on the map: “Activity Minimal During Lockdown and restocking procedures it would seem that the procedures are connected.
Also I dont think that the blast doors are programed to close at set intervals because of the PRD note: “P.R.D.:every 6-8 months. The doors couldnt be on a schedule to close because of the 6 to 8 month time frame for the drop, unless the person who wrote the note was unsure and was aproxamating from the last drop.
I also agree that the blast doors could be to prevent who ever is in the hatch from seeing the means of delivery of the rations. I think when Saiyd? noticed the blast doors, there were more than just those doors around the kitchen/whatever that area is. Right? Which would lock down the whole hatch. They are probably activated through that huge cable that comes out of the sea. Though the map did say somthing about a system wide failure of the the dharmatel intranet. By Satelite? Or radio signal from the plane. (its funny that we all refer to it by its affectionate name “The Hatch” when thats just how your enter it. Its more of a compound or a bunker.)
Assuming the doors are there to prevent them from viewing the means of the rations getting there, maybe they werent droped at all maybe they were deliverd there by someone on the island. Maybe by the “others” who could be part of Dharmatel. There could be a supply ship that delivers them. If you say islands port is too small the could off load it at sea to their smaller vesel. But thats just wild speculation.
As for the Polar Bears (there were two wernt there?), I think they were deffinitly placed on the island for some experiment because of this note off the map:“STATED GOAL, REPATRIATION ACCELERATED DE-TERRITORIALIZATION OF URSUS MARITIMUS THROUGH GENE THERAPY AND EXTREME CLIMATE CHANGE. Maybe the pole shifting experiment or another experiment that goes along with it, which is what it sounds like. Ursus Maritimus is latin for polar bear.
I like those ideas too.
I still think it’s from a plane because the parachute attached to it and the producers all-but confirming it as a plane drop in the podcast.
Dan, re: the correlation – I don’t think so. Damon asks Carlton “do you think there’s a causal relationship?” and he answers “I do”, but then he laughs. They often ask each other questions like that, specifically about things that people are speculating about; as a joke. The way they did that, I got the impression that they were joking around like they often do when answering any theory confirmation questions. I’m not saying they definitely aren’t related, just that I still think it’s up in the air. If they are in fact related, I will stick with my stealthing theory, but even that sounds kind of weak.
As for the writings, I do strongly suspect that there have been previous occupants of “the hatch” that knew as little about it as Locke and the rest of the survivors do now.
I think they were laughing because it’s only obvious.
I don’t think so, they make jokes like that all the time on the podcast.
I still haven’t heard a good explanation for why the blast doors coming down would need to happen because of the food drop. Even the one I mentioned above (shielding the hatch from detection by any plane – not just the supply plane) I don’t really think is completely solid.
It doesn’t make sense at all that it would be for locking people inside the hatch while the drop is taking place, because what if they are outside when it happens? Or even in another room down there, since we don’t know whether all the rooms were locked down or just that one.
They don’t have to be locked into the room, why do you think that? The only reason the “people” would be in the room that is being locked-down is if they were convinced not to leave the room during the it’s lock-down, i.e. the quarantine scare tactic.
I think that people did leave the hatch and when they came back they wrote on the wall to show what they did for future people (like locke). They might also think that the “map” located on the door during lock-down would prevent them from getting in trouble per sa, since it hides itself and the people they are protecting the map from would never be in the lock down. So the “door’s” a logical hiding place for a map which makes me believe the map is from past castaways like flight 815.
I still think the PRD was from a plane. Dharma can’t have a manufacturing plant on the island, a shipment would be noticeable and unless you believe they have food stored in another location on the island rationed for eternitya plane only makes sense.
The thing about locking them in the room was just a response to the speculation that the lockdown is to prevent people from seeing the food drop’s method of delivery. I *don’t* actually think that that’s the case, that’s why I was explaining why it didn’t make sense.
As for the food, there are lots of ways that this could be done. They could have a huge storage facility anywhere on or near the island.
Yeah, I can’t think of a logical reason also but it is a TV show and if they want to correlate the two in order to show the map it seems like this is the most logical way of doing it. The doors just coming down for no reason would be worse. They also had the opportunity to mess with Hurley this way too.
A huge storage facility with a supply for over 16 years? I don’t think oreos last that long.
Dharma ones do. Didn’t Hurley say that ranch dressing was good for like years unrefrigerated?
Interesting – because that is the same thing I found out last Thursday.
Excellent ideas here, have emailed my mum so expect a big reply!!
