The producers have noted that there will be an upcoming episode all in French, which I’m guessing will be the Russeau flashback episode they have also mentioned. I thought it was interesting that they said that when the episodes air in France, any French parts are translated to German.

They are definitely making a significant shift in the Locke character. In the beginning of the series, they portrayed him in a way where you were never quite sure if he was a good kind of weird or a bad kind of weird. Then they gradually presented him in a more likable fashion, until the most recent episodes, where you start to see his anger resurfacing.
My take / theory on him at the moment is that he was the one who most readily accepted the “influence” of the island (whatever that may be, whispers, mental manipulation, etc.). For a while he was a devoted disciple of whatever force was behind that, but then his faith was shaken a bit with Boone’s death, and some other things that have happened recently. Remember the scene when he is kneeling in the rain above the hatch, and he shouts out “I’ve done everything you asked” and “it’s not supposed to happen like this”.
Now, in the most recent ep, he is rummaging through the books on the shelf, obviously frustrated and even anxious, before Sawyer even comes in. While he claimed to just be “alphabetizing”, I think he was looking for answers and becoming frustrated.
Whether he has been in communication directly or indirectly with other influences on the island is not clear, but I think that this will come up shortly.
Lots of people have speculated about a tension between Locke and Eko, with one being on the “good” side, and the other on the “bad”. I don’t necessarily buy into this, since I think that there are multiple “sides” in the island’s various groups and communities, and none of them are completely “good”. It may turn out that none of them are completely “evil” either.
I believe that we still don’t have the full story on “what Kate did”, despite the episode by that name. I think this because when she went and told her “dad” what she had done to her “step-dad”, as she was starting out “on the run”, she asked him why he never told her that the other guy was her real father all along, and he replied that he was afraid she would have killed him. That’s an odd thing to think/say about someone, unless they have a previous history of violence of some sort, which would mean that the house explosion may not have been an isolated incident. He also makes a comment saying something to the effect of “I don’t have murder in my heart”, implying that she does.
An interesting side note is that Kate listens to Patsy Cline music several times on the show. Cline died in a plane crash at the age of thirty. I’m not implying that I think that the castaways are dead or anything, just an interesting observation.
I’m going to try to keep everything separated into separate posts limited to just one topic, so that the comments are easier to keep track of and stay on subject.
After last night’s episode, I am really liking the Hurley character even more. With the comment about the new washing machines (in Fire + Water) and now last night’s comment/joke about the time travel thing, I get the feeling that the writers kind of use him just to mess with the all the people that they know are so obsessed with Lost theory.
I do, however, think that he knows more than he’s letting on, so it will be interesting to see where they go with him. The producers have said the issue of his weight loss (or lack thereof) will be addressed in the show at some point, which will be interesting.
I also wonder whether anyone else on the island knows about his lottery winnings, and if so, why they aren’t letting on about it yet. If I was to make a really far out stretch of a theory, I’d say that Hurley somehow knew something about the setup and is a part of it, just as kind of a game or something, that he can afford to pay for a lot of the setup on.
Jared was going to set this up but I thought I would, just to get it started. I do expect Jared, Jason, and I contributing to most of the conversation but I would love for everyone and anyone to give their two cents on theories and what not.
I will make it so anyone who registers can post so it’s easier for everyone. Of course the gang of three will have editing and control over everything else, including this layout and style.
Let the fun begin.
