Locke / Ethan tie

Dan, please tell me you remember me saying a long time ago that I thought that they made Ethan and Locke look really similar in some of the shots from the episode where he dies.

I just noticed in the “previously on Lost” segment today that they showed Ethan punching Charlie a couple times in the face, and it looked *really* familiar.

Again, maybe just a red herring, but you never know, and I want to get credit for calling this one first…. ha ha

I don’t remember you saying that but it’s interesting. I think the whole Locke turning is a “red herring” because just in this weeks episode he seemed back to his normal side, if that’s what’s normal for him.

I could easily see the Locke / Ethan connection (if it exists at all) as being a red herring created (at least in this episode) by choosing the right kind of footage to show, and it just happening to be the same guy getting punched in the same way as he was just a few episodes ago. But I just remember earlier seeing Ethan’s face when he was fighting (don’t remember if it was Jack or Charlie) and thinking that it looked similar - like a younger Locke. Maybe I didn’t mention it at the time. I’m sure it’s probably nothing more than my imagination, but on the off chance that it is something, I thought I’d bring it up here, because I haven’t heard it mentioned anywhere else.

I don’t think he’s back to himself at all these days. I don’t think they’re necessarily going the route of him “turning bad” - partially because, like I said before, I think it’s possible or even likely that there are NO clear, black & white “good” vs. “bad” groups on the show. I do think that it is clear in the last couple episodes that he has lost some of the confidence (or faith, whatever you may call it) that he seemed to be so full of earlier on. Both with his emotional outbursts towards Charlie, and his rifling through the books in the shelf in an apparent search for answers, seem to be in contrast to his previous presentation as someone who is content to trust whatever the island may bring about. They seemed to also present him previously as someone who had a pretty good handle on his emotions (anger, fear, etc.), in spite of his attending that anger management session in his flashback, whereas now he seems to be much more unstable (to me, at least).
