I am re-watching the first season to search for clues. Noticed that Jack was not with the others on the beach when he awoke from the crash. He was not on the beach but somewhere in the forest. It’s almost as if he wasn’t with them and was somehow transported to that moment from another time and place. Also, Kate just kinda showed up, too, when Jack was trying to sew himself up from a wound in the first episode. I dunno what this means, but it has something to do with Jack saying that he needed to go back to the island in the season finale.
Also, in season one, we see a memory of Sayid’s in which there is a love interest– the girl who was in the Iraqi prison. She is the SAME GIRL in season three who called Charlie a hero when he helped her fend off a thief. I couldn’t believe it, but I’m almost positive it’s the same girl! I’m sure we’ll see more of her in season four.
First the good news, you are definitely correct on Nadia (Sayid’s girl); she has been in several of the flashbacks (one of Locke’s for sure, and I think others as well that I don’t remember at the moment). I agree that this is not a coincidence.
There are several common themes / people running through multiple flashbacks, and I’ve always felt that this was meant to tell us something about the nature of the flashbacks. I believe that they aren’t necessarily completely historically accurate, but are slightly influenced by the island.
The bad news is on the Jack front. It would be cool if they thought that far ahead, but alas, the producers have confirmed several times that it was their original plan to kill Jack at the end of the pilot episode, and they only changed that plan at the last minute because they found out in testing that it wouldn’t go over well.
That’s not to say that Jack is not an integral part of the show now (he clearly is), but I think they worked his character into that more prominent role rather than masterminding something like that from the very beginning.

Talking about finding clues, two .com websites have appeared recently based around Jack and Kate’s licence plate numbers, 2SAQ321 & 4QKD695, from the Season 3 finale.
There appears to be some kind of ARG going on. It is creating a buzz in many of the Lost forums as new clues appear.
I started watching the first season as well. I’m picking up on a few things that I missed the first time around.
I’ve also been watching Lost over again with someone who’s never seen it before.
Its incredibly interesting to hear his developing theoriesas we watch.
Becasue of what I already know and am seeing again I believe that the show is MEANT to be watched over again.
At least by avid fans.
FOr example in one of the first few episodes I believe Jack mentions something about the plane crash being strange, that they should have spiraled out of control rather than just crashing on the beach.
there are also little comments and things here and there that one couldnt have possibly caught watching for the first time.
